Your Checklist for Family Moving

 

SEND CHANGES OF ADDRESS TO:

Post Office: Give new forwarding address and get postcards to notify correspondents.

Charge accounts, credit cards.

Subscriptions.

Friends and relatives.

Bank: Transfer funds, arrange check-cashing in new city.

Insurance: Notify them of new location for coverages - life, health, fire, auto.

Route People: Laundry, newspaper carrier, changeover services.

School Records: Ask for copies or transfer children's records.

Medical, Dental, Prescription Histories: Ask doctor and dentist for referrals; transfer needed prescriptions, eyeglasses, X-rays. Secure prescription numbers for refills.

Church, club, civic organizations: Transfer memberships.

Pets: Ask about regulations for licenses, vaccinations and tags.

 

  

AND DON'T FORGET TO:

Empty freezer; plan use of foods.

Defrost freezer; use charcoal to dispel odors.

Have appliances serviced for moving; secure moving parts.

Clean clothes before moving, then have them properly wrapped.

With your moving counselor, check insurance coverage, packing and un-packing labor, arrival day, various shipping papers, method and time of expected payment.

Plan for special-care needs of infants and pets.

ON MOVING DAY:

Arrange secure transport for jewelry and other valuables.

Carry travelers-checks for quick available funds.

Let close friends and relatives know your route and travel itinerary, including overnight stops.

Double check closets, drawers, shelves to be sure they're empty.

Leave all old keys needed by new tenant/owner with agent or Realtor.
